Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification:
- Candidates must possess a B.Tech/B.E degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from a recognized university or equivalent.
Age Limit:
- Maximum Age: 36 years
- Age Relaxation: As per government norms (SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Ex-Servicemen)
Nationality:

Salary/Pay Scale
Pay Level: 16 under ROPA 2019
- Level 16 falls under the highest pay bands for West Bengal government employees.
- Fresh appointees as Assistant Engineers can expect an entry-level basic pay starting around ₹56,100 per month.
- With yearly increments, the basic pay can rise to ₹87,400 over time.
Components of Salary
- Basic Pay: ₹56,100 to ₹87,400 (depending on increment and seniority)
- Allowances: Includes Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) or City Compensatory Allowance (CCA), and other state government allowances.
Selection Process
The selection of candidates will be conducted in two stages:
- Written Test (200 marks)
- OMR-based, 100 multiple-choice objective questions
- 2 marks per correct answer; 1 mark deducted for each wrong answer
- Duration: 1.5 hours
- Language: English
- Personality Test / Interview (40 marks)
- Conducted at the WBMSC office in Kolkata
- Candidates called for personality test: 3 times the number of vacancies, based on merit
- Minimum qualifying marks: 45% for General, 40% for OBC & EWS, 35% for SC/ST/PwD candidates
Final Merit List:
- Prepared based on combined marks of written examination and personality test
- Tie-breaker: Date of birth and higher written exam marks
